BLUE DINER
It is true that a cup of coffee can be a signal for social intercourse and so it was at the Blue Diner. It was a place of comfort for the regulars who frequently gathered there and a sort of camaraderie of acceptance dwelled within its confines. It may be for that reason that the visitor decided to take respite there from the bitterly damp evening. His awkwardness was immediately evident as he blundered in from the rain and proceeded to struggle with an inside out umbrella. Eventually as the umbrella’s resistance continued, all eyes were drawn to the door. Resigned to the collapsible canopy’s victory in its tussle with its large owner, the diner’s most recent guest hung his raincoat on the coat rack and proceeded to the nearest seat at the counter. Though his face was slightly red, he seemed unaware of the interest his entrance created.
Iris Yax being most efficient at her job immediately made her way to him and with a smile on her face asked what he would like.
“I believe I might have a “cup of Joe”, he replied in a sweet yet self-conscious manner. His reply emphasized his peculiar or perhaps mysterious demeanor. The restaurant was uncharacteristically quiet as the other diners listened to the exchange between Iris and the large gentleman.
